What is Whitening For Life?

Whitening for LifeTM (WFL) is an incredible PATIENT RETENTION PROGRAM! It is often misunderstood as a whitening program –and although it is providing whitening to your patients at an affordable rate, the real value of this program is the ability it gives you to increase retention and eliminate last minute cancellations. You give the patient something that they want – teeth whitening – in order to establish a long-term relationship with your patients. By giving them a reason to come back, hygiene schedules are full, patients are trained in what is required to cancel appointments, and this gives you leverage!

We have seen this program take off within minutes of introducing it to patients. It requires no doctor time, and it can create an instant boost in hygiene production. Some offices have seen enrollments that average 20-30/month and we have seen records of 360 in just ONE month! The sky is the limit, but it does depend on some action steps from you and your team to get started.

Discuss as a team, how to handle incoming phone calls regarding Whitening for Life questions. Talk about how to present this program to patients patients and set a team goal for enrollment. When a patient who is enrolled in the Whitening for Life program calls to cancel or change an appointment, the staff should follow the recommended scripting to handle the phone call. Make sure everyone who handles phone calls is comfortable with how to respond to these calls.

Decide on a way to document in your software when a patient has enrolled in Whitening for Life. Create a continuing care catagory for his program in your software (many programs allow you to create your own continuing care alerts for perio, endo, etc.) Use the WFL initials, and activate this code in the patient’s file. This should be entered at the same time the enrollment form is completed.

Whitening for Life is a trademarked program to help you attract new patients and keep them coming back to your practice for life! This program helps eliminate the headaches of open time in the hygiene schedule.

When your patients come to the office for an initial examination, x-rays and cleaning, you will provide custom bleaching trays and materials for a minimal enrollment fee. Charge a one-time fee ( $99 is ideal..The idea with this program is not to focus on the profits on the front end…but look at the long term profits that come from keeping patients loyal to your practice and valuing their 6 month recall appointments.)

Studies have shown that the IDEAL charge for Whitening For Life is $99 – this amount is enough to provide the perceived value, while at a high discount of normal whitening fees, and yet inexpensive enough for everyone to take advantage of it!

The initial kit consists of 2 syringes (3 ML) of Generic Bleaching Gel, and custom fit bleaching trays. (You do not need to use block out when fabricating the trays)
Don’t worry about expensive packaging. We have seen people use a simple Whitening for Life sticker that they placed on easy to find white gift bags.

You may give away the models with the bleaching trays as well.

At each six-month preventive visit, give the patient a complimentary touch up kit of bleaching gel. This consists of 1 syringe (3 ML) of Generic Bleaching Gel.

Our bleach products are available for purchase at substantial discounts under retail pricing, and can be ordered both Carbamide Peroxide and Hydrogen Peroxide formula (see Order Bleach above.)

Impressions should be taken at initial patient visit if possible. Patients can either be scheduled to pick up their kit, or just asked to stop by in a few days.

If not already done, be sure that when their kit is delivered, the patient fills out an enrollment form, and the program is explained to them. Have the patient sign their form and make them a copy. Keep one copy in their file.

With this program, we are not just helping our patients whiten their smile. We do ask some- thing in return. The goal is to keep them current on their recommended preventive schedule, and reduce cancellations. This is what we ask of the patients who enroll:

You keep your 6 month preventive visits current. Your long term dental health is as important to us as it is to you. Our patients have found that these six month visits help greatly reduce emergencies. That is why we are happy to provide this extra bonus for our patients who are committed to their dental health. (For those patients on a more frequent recall program…we ask that you follow the recommendations of your hygiene provider.)

Provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or change an appointment. In order to provide exceptional services like Whitening for Life to all of our patients, we ask that you give us the courtesy of advance notice for schedule changes.

When a patient who is enrolled in the WFL program calls to cancel or change an appointment, the staff should follow the recommended scripting to handle the phone call.

If a patient misses a hygiene appointment, and wishes to receive their free touch up kit at another appointment, they pay $15 (or whatever fee you are comfortable with) for that touch up kit, and are automatically re-enrolled, and receive their next touch up kit at no charge.
